Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy
Gastrointestinal endoscopy involves observing inside the
digestive tract with specialized instruments called endoscopes.
An endoscope is a long thin tube with a powerful light
and a tiny camera at the tip which enable us to carefully
examine the digestive organs without having to perform
an incision or major surgery. The endoscope can be precisely
controlled and manipulated to take biopsies. Other miniature
instruments can also be attached to an endoscope to perform
endoscopic surgery. Endoscopic procedures enable us to
accurately diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions
affecting the digestive system.
These procedures, in many cases, have eliminated the need
for a major surgery. They do not require general anesthesia
and in most cases can be done on an outpatient basis.
We also perform highly specialized procedures such as
Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreatography (ERCP),
endoscopic ultrasonography and capsule endoscopy.
