Upper Endoscopic
Ultrasound Instructions
Click here to download Upper Endoscopic Ultrasound Instructions in pdf format.
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) uses sound waves to let your
physician visualize your esophagus, stomach, gall bladder,
liver or pancreas as well as the lymph nodes around these
organs. Direct examination of these tissues can also be
done through the endoscope at the same time.
This test is done to help your physician identify the
cause of your abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal weight
loss or other symptoms. It may also be done to provide
more specific information about masses or cancers identified
in other tests. This information will help your physician
determine the best treatment plan for you.
SEVEN DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR EXAM
- Please call our office if you are taking COUMADIN
or other blood thinners 1 week in advance. You will
need special instructions.
- If you have heart murmurs or any heart condition which
require pre-medications with antibiotics, it is very
important that you notify our office, one (1) week in advance, so we
may order proper medication for your examination.
